In 2018 Seville celebrates the 4th Centenary of its favourite son, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo. Although the year seems to be coming to an end, there are still plenty of activities and exhibitions scheduled for 2019.

For 400 years people have paid tribute to the famous Sevillian painter and his artistic legacy. In order to remember his magnificent and extensive body of work the city has focused on presenting a wide-ranging programme of activities among which we would highlight exhibitions, concerts, workshops and plays.

So where does this adventure begin? Where else but at the home where the artist spent his final days (Calle Santa Teresa, 8), in the heart of Santa Cruz neighbourhood. These days it is an information centre and meeting point, where you can request all the necessary information regarding the activities and places to visit relating to Murillo. A route that leads you to 21 key points in the city, to learn about 17th century Seville through the eyes, life and work of the artist.

These are our highlights of the Murillo experience:

1. Murillo Routes

Following In the footsteps of Murillo” or “Glimpses of Murillo” are a series of permanent tours in the city, which take you to charming spots within the city along with locations where there are paintings by the artist or which have a special link to his life and works. Among them are the Archbishop’s Palace, the Hospital de la Caridad, the Archive of the Indies or the Murillo House (free entrance and information centre).

2. Murillo’s 4th Centenary
