Posada Real La Carteria is situated in the heart of the historic centre of Puebla de Sanabria, a medieval Spanish village. The building dates back to 1736: however then it was the office where the Cistercian monks collected their tithes. Later it housed the first post office of the Sanabria region, hence the name (“cartería” means post office in Spanish).

This ‘Royal Inn’ (Posada Real) is located near the Plaza Mayor, the main square, the Castle of the Counts of Benavente and the medieval walls of the village. The house was restored to its original authenticity with stone, centenary wood beams, oak floors and slate roof. It has typical glass galleries or ‘Corredores Sanabreses’ offering wonderful views to the Tera River and the castle’s walls.

The hotel has eight different rooms – 5 suites and 3 double rooms – with twin beds or king size beds. Since the rooms are very spacious, there is always the possibility to put an additional bed and/or cradle. All rooms are equipped with TV, DVD, free minibar, electric tea kettle, safe, wireless internet connection, laptops (on request) and bathrooms with hairdryer, magnifying mirror, customized amenities, hot tub or whirlpool in the suites. A friendly welcome gift with fresh fruit and chocolates awaits all customers.

In search of comfort and quality and with a passion for detail, the interior design is a harmonious blend of decorative styles that combines traditional rustic elements with minimalist avant-garde furniture.

The hotel has also a SPA area with gym, sauna, Turkish bath and Scottish shower.

Our delicious desserts deserve a special mention: They have been recovered from oral tradition and are made of walnuts, chestnuts, hazelnuts, raspberries and other products growing in our kitchen gardens and forests.
